Ram Temple : Celebration of a Lifetime

Greatness of Ayodhya

The upcoming temple construction event at Ayodhya is a one of a kind event. Being the birthplace of Lord Rama, Ayodhya (Saketh) finds numerous mentions in our Itihasas, Puranas and other scriptures. Considered as one of the 108 Vaishnavite Divyadesams, this place is also mentioned in over 13 Divyaprabanda songs and sung by five Aazhwars. As we witness the construction of this great Ram temple, our names will be etched permanently in history.

It is now our turn to celebrate

With the advent of every yuga, great many celebratory events have unfolded. The killing of Hiranyakashipu, the three steps taken by Lord Trivikrama, the coronation of Lord Rama, the birth of Lord Krishna and his subsequent slaying of Kamsa, the wedding of Goddess Padamavathi with Lord Srinivasa are such examples. In this Kali yuga, the construction and consecration of Ram temple can be our unique moment of celebration.

Already the work has started in all grandeur. Three-day long Vedic rituals are planned ahead of the ground-breaking ceremony. For Ram Temple Bhoomi-Pooja, soil from several temples across the world, holy water from Ganga, Yamuna, Saraswati, Kaveri and other holy rivers are being collected. About 7000 temples in a 7 km radius of the site will be lighting lamps to mark the celebrations. With the Lord’s blessings, we should see a magnificent temple rise from the place to guide mankind soon.

Why to celebrate?

We are an emotional bunch of people. A lot of things excite us – like the Cricket World Cup, the IPL, our favorite actor’s movie release, a rock concert, a new mall etc; We tend to lose sleep over these things and don’t want to miss the action no matter what happens. Even after knowing that the happiness from these events are temporary we still indulge in them. However what we are going to witness in Ayodhya is a celebration without parallel. Possibly no other generation of mankind might witness and contribute to such an event again. Imagine how excited we all should be over this!

How can we celebrate?

Agreed, we can’t be there physically because of the present constraints. But that doesn’t have to be a deterrent. There are several ways for us to participate in the celebrations:

  • we can watch the whole event on TV with reverence
  • we can chant our favorite slokas on Ram or recite Hanuman Chalisa
  • write the name of Ram,
  • sing kirtanas or songs on Rama,
  • visit any local Ram temples that are open
  • provide monetary support (authentic site for contribution  Ram Temple SRJBT)
  • help the sevarthis physically,
  • teach the children about the greatness of Ram and Ramayana
  • make the children light lamps to mark the occasion
  • organize quiz sessions on Ramayana
  • prepare food (prasadam) and offer to the needy
  • take a selfie with family in front of the Lord and share it in social media

All these can help us be part of the festivities even if not being present there physically.

It is believed that those who lived during the times of Rama including plants and animals were granted Moksha, when Rama left this world. I strongly believe we can expect the same grace if we perform the above actions during the time of the construction of His temple.
